Performance is generally OK, but there is an occasional "stutter". What is causing that? |

A regular "stutter", say every few seconds, is normally associated with a background process kicking in and taking some processing power away from the game for a moment. Common culprits for this are instant messaging software checking whether your contacts are online, file sharing software doing something similar, anti-virus tools checking memory, and so on. Disconnect from the internet before starting the game, temporarily disable your anti-virus software, and stop any unnecessary background processes. The "stutter" should stop happening.
If the "stutter" is irregular, particularly if it coincides with ships entering your sector, then it could just be the game loading new 3D models from the hard disk. This is unavoidable, but you can minimise the effect in a couple of ways. One is to make sure your hard disk is defragmented and not too full, and that you are running the game from the fastest hard disk you have. The other is to try switching on the 3D Cache option if you haven't already done so.
