Note: This only applies to Vista or newer versions of Windows.
If your X game has recently been reinstalled, updated or repaired and still crashes, will not start or your gamesaves are shown as corrupt or crash on loading then it might be that old, corrupt or modified gamefiles are still being used from the Virtual Store on your system rather than the updated or repaired files on the harddrive.
To clear the relevant Virtual Store, navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore (or on whichever drive or partition letter your Windows installation is on) and locate the folder for the relevant X game which can be manually deleted. Running the game may now populate the Store with a new folder with selected gamefiles and data as necessary.
Note that it is worth checking and if necessary doing this action every time you uninstall an X game for any reason.
